Want to save money on your energy bills this winter?
Lowering your energy usage and energy bills doesn’t have to be difficult, costly or time consuming. Making small changes part of your everyday routine can really add up and make a big difference.
Check out these simple, zero cost tips to reduce your energy usage and start saving money on those dreaded bills:
2. Washing dishes
Only wash full loads of dishes in your dishwasher. Set your dishwasher to air dry instead of heated dry.
3. Running water
Use cold water for running the garbage disposal and rinsing dirty dishes before putting them in the dishwasher.
4. Freezer
Regularly defrost freezers to avoid ice buildup, which makes your freezer less efficient.
5. Kitchen appliances
Unplug appliances when they’re not being used, think coffee makers, toaster ovens, blenders, and air fryers.
6. Clothes washing
When washing laundry, use cold water whenever possible and only do full laundry loads.
7. Clothes drying
Dry loads of laundry consecutively, so you harvest the heat from the previous load. Clean your lint filter before each drying cycle.
8. Lights
Turn off lights when you’re not in the room.
9. Office equipment
Turn off monitors, printers etc. when they’re not being used, especially overnight or on weekends.
10. Charging
Unplug phones, iPads and battery chargers as soon as they’re fully charged.
11. Heating
Turn your thermostat down by one degree to decrease energy use by 3-5%
12. Bathing
Take shorter showers, ideally 5-7 minutes maximum
