Home Energy Audits
What is a Home Energy Audit?
A home energy audit evaluates your home's efficiency based on current standards, identifying areas for improvement. Most older homes will benefit from targeted recommendations to meet today’s best practices.
The typical 3-hour audit includes:
Inspecting for air leaks in foundation, exterior walls, and openings (windows, doors, outlets, etc.)
Checking energy loss-prone areas like the attic, basement, and crawl spaces
Conducting a blower door test with thermal imaging to assess air leakage
Testing gas appliances for safety
The assessor will also review your utility bills and provide a custom report with personalized energy improvement recommendations.
Why Should I Get an Energy Audit?
A home energy audit gives you the knowledge to improve your home’s efficiency and reduce energy use. With a clear roadmap, you can prioritize upgrades based on your budget and goals. Benefits include:
Lower energy bills: Save money by applying audit insights.
Greater comfort: Eliminate drafts and cold spots with improved insulation.
Better air quality: Seal air leaks to keep contaminants out.
Reduced environmental impact: Efficient homes use less energy, helping the planet.
Investing in energy upgrades benefits both your home and the community.
What is the Cost?

New rebates are available starting 1/1/25. The cost covers the first 3,000 sqft, with an additional charge of $0.05/sqft for 3,000-6,000 sqft, and $0.10/sqft for areas over 6,000 sqft. *This applies to your primary residence. For full details, visit: IRS Energy Efficient Home Improvement Credit.
How Does This Work?
Sustainable Grand has partnered with EnergySmart Colorado, Mountain Parks Electric, and Xcel Energy to bring home energy audits to Grand County and Jackson County.
Sign up for an audit, and our local energy experts will schedule a home visit. The auditor will assess your home’s efficiency and identify energy waste.
Afterward, you’ll receive a personalized report with recommendations for improvements. Discounts, rebates, and incentives are available to help you save on DIY or professional upgrades.
